Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
